Canada Reads 2014, LPG-style

As huge book lovers, the staff at the LPG is always excited to see what the theme is every year for the CBC’s Canada Reads, who the celebrity defenders are, and ultimately, which books will be competing. We’re using the five fantastic books chosen to compete in Canada Reads 2014 as a jumping off point to suggest some of our publishers’ books that have something in common with the competing titles. So if you liked one or all of the titles chosen to compete in this year’s Canada Reads, we think we might have your next great read all picked out.

As huge book lovers, the staff at the LPG is always excited to see what the theme is every year for the CBC’s Canada Reads, who the celebrity defenders are, and ultimately, which books will be competing.

Last year was really fun to play along with, as the theme was Regionality. We hopped on that train, suggesting our own selection of books published by our members. Since they are all Canadian publishers producing books written by fellow Canadians, spread far and wide across this great nation of ours, we had lots of ideas.

After the success and fun had by all last year, it was a bit of a head scratcher to figure out how we could replicate the fun with the CBC’s 2014 theme: One Novel to Change our Nation.

We thought about it and waited for the books to be announced, and thought about it some more. Taking a look at the final five books that will head into the ring next week we decided we’d put our own “indie” spin on things.

Our idea was to use the five fantastic books chosen to compete in Canada Reads 2014 as a jumping off point to suggest some of our publishers’ books that have something in common with the competing titles. As fellow book lovers, we know you’re always searching for your next book and recommendations are always useful in narrowing down your plethora of options. So if you liked one or all of the titles chosen to compete in this year’s Canada Reads, we think we might have your next great read all picked out.

Each day this week we’ve delved into one of our suggestions, allowing you to get to know why we think these books should be added to your to-be-read pile:

We hope you’ve enjoyed follow along with us… we’ll see you next year!
