The Hap-happiest time of year! April is National Poetry Month!
Poetry lovers, it’s that time of year once again, the most wonderful time of year… it’s National Poetry Month! Pardon us for our excitement, but as a group of Canadian literary publishers that has produced 160 poetry collections over the last year alone, NPM is like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Canada Day all rolled into one for us (minus the need for roomy pants)!
You may remember our celebration from last year, CoCoPoPro. We featured 35 poems by 35 different poets in just 30 days! It was amazing to see fans of poetry follow along with us all through the month and engage with the poetry we were sharing.
Given the success of last year when the League of Canadian Poets announced that this year’s theme was Poetry City we knew we were in for another awesome NPM. What better way to celebrate the place of poetry in Canadian culture than to showcase poems that have been inspired by various places across Canada?
Over the next month a dozen Canadian poets will share with us one of their poems and tell us what place inspired them to write it. So follow along for some more coast-to-coast poetry fun!
Since this year is all about place, we’re also putting together some poetry readings all across the country! With the help of our members we’ll be celebrating NPM in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Halifax, and St. John’s. We’d love to see you come out to celebrate one of our favourite holidays with us!
