In Review: The Week of November 13th

~ We took a look at the places in western Canada that informed the gorgeous watercolour paintings of Indigenous reserves by Arthur Pitts, from a book by Kerry Mason and Mother Tongue Publishing.~ After playing casting director with Linda Leith Publishing for their release of forever fave Mavis Gallant’s only play What Is To Be Done?, we agreed that every movie could use a little Meryl in it.~ This Thursday we did our third annual Giller manicures in anticipation of next week’s ceremony: there may have been a bit of a heated competition here on who got to do our pick for the winner I Am a Truck.~ Our #FridayReads pick this week is a debut novel by acclaimed playwright, actor, and director Rod Carley, called A Matter of Will (from Latitude 46). The book tells “the story of Will Croswell, a middle-age maybe minister and his search for a mighty purpose,” and Rod does it “as though he’s talking to a friend at a tavern.”

~ We dried our nails reading this affably sad and hilariously determined take on trying to decipher if your novel made the Giller Longlist based on the “stack” photo, from Jared Young.~ Some filmmakers are adapting a short story by Alistair MacLeod, “In The Fall”, into a film, and have launched an Indiegogo campaign to help fund it.~ Simpsons Library is the Instagram account that scrupulously documents all of the books – real and imagined – in The Simpsons.
