Dog
Guardian of the gates of hell, brightest star in the night sky, the dog is the saucy, swaggering, world-weary trickster whose indomitable spirit has been mythologized for millennia. In Dog, poets Catherine Owen and Joe Rosenblatt have written a volume of solo and conjoined sonnets about dogs of the cosmos, the underworld and the psyche. Orbiting around the striking canine images of photographer Karen Moe’s Perros: Dogs of Central Havana, Owen and Rosenblatt wisely and wittily follow the scent of mankind’s oldest friend, sniffing out the traces of the dog in all of us.

Catherine Owen
Catherine Owen is an Edmonton-based poet (formerly of Vancouver) whose work has been published in national and international journals such as ‘Queen’s Quarterly’ and ‘Poetry Salzburg’. Her first book ‘Somatic: The Life and Work of Egon Schiele’ (Exile Editions, 1998) was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Award while her second, ‘The Wrecks of Eden’ (Wolsak and Wynn, 2002) was short listed for the BC Book Prize. Her most recent collections are ‘Cusp/detritus’ (Anvil Press, 2006) and’Shall: Ghazals’ (Wolsak and Wynn, 2006). Her work has also appeared in the anthologies ‘A Practice of Spirit'(St Thomas Poetry Series 2002) and a collection of tributes to Joe Rosenblatt (Guernica Editions 2005).

Joe Rosenblatt
Governor General’s Award winning poet Joe Rosenblatt has written over twenty books of poetry in a career that has taken him on reading and lecture tours all over the world. Rosenblatt began his career in Toronto and currently lives in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. His most recent poetry volume is Dog (2008), a volume of solo and conjoined sonnets writtern with Catherine Owen and photographer Karen Moe.
