Quick jump to your sign:

Aries | Taurus | Gemini | Cancer

Leo | Virgo | Libra | Scorpio

Sagittarius | Capricorn | Aquarius | Pisces

Aries (March 21-April 19)

2026 promises to be a transformational year for Aries, one that will have you trading your go-go-go attitude for slowing down, listening carefully, and discovering what’s true about yourself.

Your reading recommendations:

Learn to tune into the sounds of the forest from Lost Songs of Nature: Nature’s Symphony in the Age of Noise Pollution (Great Plains Press), or explore the stories that were exchanged during Zane Koss’s rural upbringing in his poetry collection Country Music (Invisible Publishing).

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

For Taurus, 2026 is a year of letting go. This can be hard to do for a stubborn sign that loves comfort, but in the exercise of shedding the things that don’t serve you, you’ll rebuild from that newfound simplicity and help create a future you’re aligned with.

Your reading recommendations:

Seek inspiration from Patty Krawec’s dispensing of the notion of being a “good Indian” in her celebration of Indigenous and other post-colonial reading in Bad Indians Book Club (Goose Lane Editions), or establish what inheritance and passing on really means in the introspective, more-than-financial-planning guidebook Roots of Prosperity (Cormorant Books).

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

To the Geminis out there fed up with the way things are going, 2026 is your year of revolution. The twin sides of your personality will work to radically heal within and without. Remember that change doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to happen.

Your reading recommendations:

Look inward as poet Nathanael Jones does in Aqueous (Porcupine’s Quill), a collection of three poem sequences that explore the Black diasporic experience, or take a look back at the American “draft dodgers” who resisted conscription in the Vietnam War and resettled in Canada instead in Joline Martin’s War Resisters (Caitlin Press).

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

For sensitive Cancers, 2026 grants you the opportunity to stand up for yourself, even if it means going it alone for a little while. In prioritizing yourself first and protecting your heart from those who would take advantage of it, you’ll open up new avenues of creativity.

Your reading recommendations:

Read Bernard Mulaire’s unique approach to a travelogue of short stories-as-snapshots of his wanderings through Winnipeg in Winnipeg and other places (At Bay Press), or parlay your new creativity into a lucrative (question mark?) career with David Berry’s How Artists Make Money and How Money Makes Artists (Coach House Books).

Leo (July 23-August 22)

Leos in 2026 can seek wisdom through accessing their inner child. By dialling down into your roots and meeting that inner child with compassion and care, you’ll do the healing you need to trust yourself, and share that self with the world.

Your reading recommendations:

For a fiction and nonfiction pick to soothe that inner child soul, check out the linked stories that together tell a tale of family in Heidi Wicks’s Here (Breakwater Books), or Alex Manley’s essays on their (sometimes painful) self-discovery of being both non-binary and neurodivergent in Post-Man (Arsenal Pulp Press).

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

OK, sweet Virgos, sit down. 2026, for you, is a year of letting go. (Pause to take a breath.) Perfection isn’t the goal, anymore. (Another breath.) In abandoning rigidity, you’ll find connection with people around you and forge ahead together.

Your reading recommendations:

Find joy and meaning in (literal) garbage with Anna Swenson’s The Garbage Poems (Brick Books), or the abandonment of individuality for the pack in Michele Riml and Michael St. John Smith’s play The Cull (Scirocco Drama / J. Gordon Shillingford Publishing).

Libra (September 23-October 22)

For Libras, your strong moral compass will lead you to finding another who shares those values this year: indeed, 2026 could be a year of romance! When you find that person who sees eye-to-eye with what you value most in the world, only joy can come of it.

Your reading recommendations:

Read about love in all its forms and permutations in the graphic novel anthology Alberta Comics: Love (Renegade Arts Entertainment), or witness the starts and ends of various relationships in Curtis John McRae’s collection of stories Quietly, Loving Everyone (Véhicule Press).

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Scorpios in 2026 can expect to face down something they’ve perhaps been avoiding: a truth they’ve shied away from until it comes to a head this year. The path won’t be easy, necessarily, but you don’t have to walk it alone: Scorpios can – and should – lean on their loved ones during the journey.

Your reading recommendations:

Take an epic quest of self-discovery in Tracy Wai de Boer’s poetry collection Nostos (Palimpsest Press), or witness the gentle epiphanies beheld by the older men and women in the stories of Rabindranath Maharaj’s A Quiet Disappearance (Mawenzi House).

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

2026 is a call-to-arms year for Sagittarius: you are being called to deeper purpose. To that, you will find your efforts to communicate – whether through writing, teaching, or even casual conversations – will be fruitful and help you discover and hone that purpose.

Your reading recommendations:

Jumpstart your writer’s craft with Sarah Selecky’s can-do book Story Is a State of Mind (Assembly Press), or read Standing in the Footprints of Beasts (NeWest Press) a memoir-in-essays where Danica Klewchuk discovers her own writerly powers.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

This year, Capricorns will break free of the patterns and bonds that were set in their childhoods, toward a new way of living. The disruption of these patterns could be scary, but through breaking them, Capricorns will find truth, simplicity, and joy in 2026.

Your reading recommendations:

Read Tamara Jong’s moving memoir of leaving the Jehovah’s Witness religion after decades of fraught belief, Worldly Girls (Book*hug Press), or re-examine the grief and change of the pandemic years in Robyn Sarah’s poetry collection We’re Somewhere Else Now (Biblioasis).

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Free-thinking Aquarians will be happy to hear that in 2026, you’ll break loose from whatever expectations you were beholden to. In ignoring those expectations, you can expect to find more clarity this year towards future-building, friendship, and even love.

Your reading recommendations:

See how Musqueam-Chinese Elder Larry Grant overcame decades of colonial interference to access his own culture and heritage in his memoir Reconciling (ECW Press), or how the elderly Forbes in David Giuliano’s novel The Upending of Wendall Forbes (Latitude 46) find unexpected companionship in a cast of characters that shelter in their home after a snowstorm.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

For Pisces, the dreaminess with which you naturally meet the world will be exchanged for developing some real roots. In those roots, you’ll find steadfastness, devotion, and commitment to yourself, and in 2026 you’ll let your natural sensitivity shine while still having a soft place to land.

Your reading recommendations:

Read about how storied writer Sharon Butala, on a 1,000+ kilometre road trip, unearthed her personal history in the memoir How to Breathe Water (Freehand Books), or read Susan Grundy’s novel of a woman discovering how five mysterious names – proclaimed from her mother’s deathbed – link to the dreams she’s had since childhood in Black Creek (Inanna Publications).
