We made this recipe in an ALU dessert-athon last year and still dream about these Snowballs: they’re so chocolatey, with a good chew from the oats and coconut (plus, those things are totally healthy, right?) Plus, if you have vegans in your party crew, you can easily sub in non-dairy milk and vegan butter. Likewise, certified gluten-free oats are great for any celiac folks in the mix.

These did not last long.

Newfoundland Snowball Cookies

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 3 cups large rolled oats
  • 1 cup unsweetened fine coconut
  • 12 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups extra coconut to roll the balls
