With spring comes National Poetry Month, an ALU favourite, and a time for us to get even more poetically charged. (Or in this year’s case, poetically-political…and that’s all we’ll reveal for now.) So in advance of our NPM series on Monday, we’re throwing it back to the last few years to remind us of all the greats who have been part of our annual tradition.

In 2013, after we launched a blog on the website of our parent association, Literary Press Group, we featured 35 poets with a Coast-to-Coast Poetry Project we called CoCoPoPro. (Try saying that three times in a row!) Every day we posted a new poem and insight from the poet about what they were reading.
In 2014, we went with the League of Canadian Poets’ theme, Poetry City where we featured 12 poems that were about a different yet specific place in Canada. We featured stories from the poets revealing why that particular place was inspirational to them.
In 2015, we saw our first NPM on All Lit Up. We wanted to get more than poetry buffs interested in Canadian poetry, so we cast a wider net with our Poetry Primer. Our series featured 16 established Canadian poets who each selected an up-and-coming poet from who we shared a poem. We also put together our first book, ibid, which featured 32 participating NPM 2015 poets.
Last year, we created a constellation of 131 poets in a project called Woven Odes, which we used to help readers discover their next poetry read. We zoomed in on three different authors from our poetry web, unravelled their influences and shared an excerpt from their latest collection.
