~ We went behind the scenes with Montreal-based LGBTQ publisher Metonymy Press whose recent claim-to-fame includes Emma Watson’s book club: “When a team member at Our Shared Shelf, the project of Emma Watson (of Hermione fame and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador), contacted us earlier this year, we were excited but presumed the club would choose another book.”~ We kicked off one of the greatest seasons of the year (baseball!) with a roundup of baseball books in prep for the first day of the MLB season.~ For #WorldPoetryDay Adam Sol (How a Poem Moves, ECW Press) compares poetry to ice cream and offers a bite-size primer on how to approach poetry for all the reluctant poetry readers: “Nobody is going to force you to read poetry, or eat ice cream, but why deny yourself the pleasure?”~ Award-winning Newfoundland poet Tome Dawe (New and Collected Poems, Breakwater Books) chats with us about the evolution of his poetry, how he begins his poems, Gerald Squires, and more: “The poetry of my hippy years seems far removed from my latest haiku-like compositions. My outport poems are a universe away from my protest poems.”
