(Brb, Hollywood is calling.)~ Author Paul Butler enters the dark recesses of our Off/Kilter column to discuss his new book Mina’s Child (Inanna Publications), a dark and refreshing extension of Stoker’s iconic Dracula, shifted into the 20th century: “Far less explored in popular culture as well as film is the degree to which Stoker’s story is also about the male guarding of women’s sexuality and the sense of fury and loathing that occurs when this guard is removed.”~ ALU staffer Tan takes on BookRiot’s #ReadHarderChallenge with a duo of books based in Quebec—a gripping mystery and a graphic memoir from Linda Leith Publishing and Pow Pow Press.~ We like big books and we cannot lie. Check out these long reads to help you fill even longer summer days – all stories you’ll be happy to spend some extra time with!
