On the Blog

~ We took to the stars (aka the internet) to bring you cosmically charged book recommendations for every zodiac sign.~ We chatted with Lucy Haché whose collection Stars (At Bay Press) made the CBC Books’s top poetry picks of 2018 about inspiration and Indigenous resilience: “I think our bodies remember where they come from because I had never been there before, but it felt like home.”~ Jennifer Bowering Delisle (author of The Bosun Chair, NeWest Press) talked about on the politics of settler family memoirs and the role the genre might play in decolonization: “I wanted to be part of a conversation, in which I, a white settler, not only speak, but also listen.” ~ For #fridayreads we picked Pamela Mulloy’s debut novel The Deserters (Véhicule Press) a page-turning blend of Alice Hoffman’s Faithful & Elizabeth Hay’s His Whole Life.

Around the Web

~ We spy some ALU picks in CBC Books’s spring preview of Canadian poetry, including How She Read, these are not the potatoes of my youth, Tonguebreaker, Mad Long Emotion, TREATY#, War/Torn, Hope Matters, It’s a Big Deal!, and more!~ This medievalian book coffer is the OG mobile reader, showing that our reading-on-the-go habits are age old. ~ Stunning bookstores in Asia? Don’t mind if we do!

What Else We’re Reading

Staffer Mandy is reading about the little-known stories of Toronto’s early female prisoners in Leah Simone Bowen’s drama The Flood (Playwrights Canada Press).
