~Anvil Press gave us the historical deets on how the International 3-Day Novel Contest was established and shared more about how YOU can take part in this years contest happening right now during this Labour Day weekend!~In this week’s Beautiful Books column, If Sylvie Had Nine Lives (Freehand Books) author Leona Theis chatted with designer Natalie Olsen about the challenges of incorporating maps into the book’s cover design to help bring the story to life.~Metonymy Press helped us learn the definition of the Mauritian-Kreol word ZOM-FAM and shared more about the newly published book of poetry by the same name from multi-talented artist Kama La Mackerel –  a debut collection that mythologizes a queer/trans narrative of and for the author’s home island, Mauritius.~ALU staffer Tan Light continues with Book Riot Read Harder challenge, this week reading Jan Andrew’s To See the Stars(Running the Goat) – a great example of historical fiction set in a time-frame that is not World War II + Tan’s recommendations on must-read literary magazines to switch up your reading game.
