Chappy Hour: A Sweet Marie + Full Circle

All of the Chappy Hour poems we’ve read over the years have a certain decadence, but perhaps none more so than Helen Fogwill Porter’s “Food for Thought” from her latest collection Full Circle (Breakwater Books) lists eight specific food items (chocolate doughnuts, roasted pork, et cetera) that all sound just too good – we’ll have to sate ourselves with the Sweet Marie cocktail (or it’s non-alcoholic cousin) that mixologist Tan has whipped up this month.

Have you ever missed the bus while grabbing a snack? The craving for a Sweet Marie caused Helen Fogwill Porter to do just that, as documented in the featured poem “Food For Thought”, from her new collection, Full Circle (Breakwater Books). Whip up this cocktail version of that chocolatey treat to sip on as you read.

The Cocktail

(text instructions to follow)
A Sweet Marie CocktailWhat You Need:
  • ½ oz Amaretto
  • 1 oz Chocolate Vodka
  • 1 tbsp Light Cream
Instructions:
  1. Add ice to your cocktail shaker.
  2. Add Amaretto, Vodka and Cream.
  3. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds
  4. Strain into a cocktail glass and serve.
*For a non-alcoholic Sweet Marie treat, add a few drops of almond extract to chocolate milk, shake over ice, and serve.
