Radioland

By (author): Matt Cahill

Dead bodies are being found in Toronto; bodies that have been altered in disturbing ways. There are whispers on the streets of a murderer stalking the bars and clubs. No one knows who the killer could be. Maybe it’s Kris, a troubled musician who has just reached a level of fame only to have his life collapse around him. Maybe it’s Jill, a young woman cursed with a dangerous magic that calls strangers to her.

As Kris struggles to deal with a childhood experience of sexual abuse he finds a strange advertisement pinned to a tree. By answering it he begins texting Jill, another lost soul reaching out for connection. In bits and pieces, they share their stories, discovering truths about themselves and the people surrounding them, until they must face the danger that is stalking them both.

Reviews

“A triumph in psychological-disaster storytelling, Radioland blasts across the airwaves with an enviable power and originality.”

– Minerva Reader

“It has magic. It has murder. It has music. It has everything I was looking for and it is a literary thriller you are definitely not going to want to miss.”

– Ampersand Review

The Society of Experience is a psychological journey through the abandoned corridors of the human spirit.”

– Harper’s Bazaar

“This literary time travel thriller set in Toronto was one of my favorite books of 2015. It’s written with such rawness and grace that I made mouse-like squeaks every 10 pages or so. Couldn’t. Put it. Down. The language is lyrical and fresh, and the psychic pain of the main character Derrick van der Lem palpable. I want to zoom into the future to Cahill’s next book, but I can’t drive the stick shift on a DeLorean.”

– 49th Shelf

“Matt Cahill draws a dark but richly nuanced world where redemption seems questionable and the hero undeserving, but we can’t quite help hoping it will happen anyway.”
