Passport

By (author): Angela Hibbs

With its narrative heart in Newfoundland, Passport is a book about crossing borders, both metaphorical and real. In a wonderfully evoked working-class childhood, spent on various Canadian military bases, Hibbs reveals a life full of striking, often stricken characters. Always implied is a journey, one or many. In a series of daring, intelligent, and elliptical poems, Angela Hibbs illuminates all the stations of her journey, sometimes narratively and dramatically, sometimes lyrically. To read the poems all together is to experience a kind of coming of age novel, powerful, spare, and entirely persuasive.
