Two Poems from Beautiful Unknown Future
by Taryn Hubbard
Situations only escalate under pressure. Humans in cubicles
feel the heat of their monitors while a/c blasts from above,
simulating an environment that is more comfortable. We’ve
been at these reports for hours.
My daughter looks up from her early chapter book and asks,
“Dreams not coming true yet?”
Innovation is the empty calorie of corporate jargon.
Self-care Bingo is the rose petal-dusted protein doughnut of wellness culture.
Subtweeting is the refurbished second-generation iPad of dialogue.
Negative energy is the stubborn pickle jar of outrage.
Severance pay is the sample-size perfume of self-determination.
