This Week in Book Events: November 9-15th
Lots to do in this week in book events: including the ushering in of a new Giller winner! With a 3/5 chance of it being an indie book, we like those odds! And of course, it’s Remembrance Day on Wednesday, folks – please do take a moment to reflect in whichever way suits you best. Are you hosting an event featuring an author whose titles are available on All Lit Up? Send the event details, including author, book, date, time, and address to hello@alllitup.ca to be included in our listings.

Across CanadaScotiabank Giller Light Bash!Where: See locations and times here: http://www.gillerlightbash.ca/More information: Are you a fan of Canadian literature? The Scotiabank Giller Light Bash combines a taste of the Scotiabank Giller Prize Gala formalities with an affordable price in an exciting party environment. Originally organized as a house party by a group of friends in 2002, the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash has grown into a full-scale event with over 1200 people celebrating Canadian literature and supporting literacy from coast-to-coast. Guests watch the live broadcast of the Gala on the big screen, socialize with fellow guests, vote on the book they believe will take home the coveted Scotiabank Giller Prize and drink special “Doris-tinis” in honour of Doris Giller, the prize’s namesake. It is a well-known and well-attended cultural event that has become a must-attend event and a highlight of the Canadian literary scene.Organized by dedicated volunteers from the publishing industry, including literacy advocates, book retailers and members of the community, each regional event takes on a different design, from a cocktail reception and tasting dinner in Winnipeg to a rollicking debate between celebrity panelists in Halifax.Scotiabank Giller Light events will be held in seven cities on one special night.TorontoShannon Maguire, Karen Solie, Shannon Quinn at The Art BarWhere: Black Swan Tavern, 154 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ONWhen: 8pmMore information: Poets Shannon Maguire, Karen Solie, and Shannon Quinn read at the Art Bar Poetry Series.
