~ For back-to-school season we talked to children’s poet Robert Priest (The Wolf is Back from Wolsak & Wynn) about his travels to Attawapiskat First Nation where two young activists are making an impact on the community.~ We gave Toronto some love when we chatted with illustrator and cartoonist Tom Chitty about his Toronto-inspired drawings and specifically about the one that became the cover for Kara Stanley’s Ghost Warning (Caitlin Press).~ We talked genre, books, and untidy desks in this Writer’s Block feature with Theresa Kishkan, author of Euclid’s Orchard and Other Essays (Mother Tongue Publishing). (Also, you’ll see why we now long for our own place on the Sechelt Peninsula.)~ Arleen Paré shared with us The Girls with Stone Faces(Brick Books), which memorializes sculptors Frances Loring and Florence Wyle.
