~ For Canada Day we got excited about 10 fantastic books coming out of each province in the country. ~#ALUbookclub started this week with our July pick Echolocation by Karen Hofmann (NeWest Press): “Hofmann imparts heavy themes throughout her work, like child neglect, ageism, and class struggle, but does so with a light touch that makes for enjoyable and thought-provoking reading.”~ Nancy Jo Cullen’s The Western Alienation Badge (Wolsak & Wynn) took us back to Alberta’s Prairie roots — from oil boom to recession bust — through the eyes of the Murray family. ~ We’re armed with sunscreen and tote bags full of scorching hot summer reads from the ALU bookshelves. Check out what we’re reading lakeside, beachside and A/C-side this summer.
