Do-Lit-Yourself: Colour Me CanLit Wrapping Paper
We’re all about the style and substance here at All Lit Up (did you see our fave covers of 2015 list? All great books, too), but that being said: have you seen these adult colouring books going around? Not wanting to be left out, and realizing that you might not, either, we’ve created some colourable giftwrap for the last few lit nerds on your list. Make some tea, grab your pencil crayons, and relax.
Do-Lit-Yourself is a column for book lovers with a crafty streak. This pinteresting monthly is penned by LPG Education and Engagement manager Lauren Perruzza.
Make some tea, grab your pencil crayons, and relax.* * *First up is for the grammar-obsessed person you know and (sometimes struggle to) love. Wrap a Chicago Manual of Style or the sweet, pocket-sized This is Importance by Gregory Betts (Wolsak & Wynn) in these parts of speech for the person to whom I just referred.
Second, we hearken to more traditional Canadiana: lumberjack tartan, takeaway drive-thru coffee, geese, and, our own Dei Gratia CanLit, Margaret Atwood. Use this one to wrap up one (or all!) of the O Canada Crosswords books (from Nightwood Editions), or Across Canada by Story (ECW Press), editor Douglas Gibson’s account of meeting some of CanLit’s finest: Robertson Davies, Alice Munro, and, yes, Margaret Atwood. Our last wrap for you is for the more broody and introspective on your list: a poetry lover, perhaps? In fact, it would only be a poetry lover that would guess our Jan Zwicky line on the ribbon. We love this one so much we even made it into a printable postcard sheet, which you could use as a gift-tag if you were so inclined. You missed the boat on us wrapping them for you, but you could wrap any of our Festival of Lit poetry picks and we think your giftee would be pretty stoked.
You can download all three in a tabloid or letter-sized .pdf for printing. Enjoy, and do share your adventures in colouring with us!
