April 18 is Haiku appreciation day. Haiku poetry is Japanese, non-rhyming and normally consists of 3 lines with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5.  Haiku poems take inspiration from an element of nature, a moment of beauty or a special experience or event. To celebrate, I’ve forgone the classic Haiku Cocktail in favour of a more intricate version, and paired it with a selection of haiku poetry from David W. McFadden’s latest, Shouting Your Name Down A Well. These poems were written over the span of McFadden’s career, and the collection forms a curious kind of memoir. (Bonus, you’ll get to read a couple of Tanka poems as well!)What You’ll Need:
• A cocktail shaker, carafe + cold glass
• 2 thin cucumber slices cut in half
• 50 ml good quality light sake
• 80 ml brewed, cooled jasmine tea
• 10 ml Velvet Falernum liqueur
• 10 ml cane syrup / sugar syrup
• 5 ml lemon juice
• Chilled Prosecco as required (about 25ml)
What to Do:1. Add ice to the shaker.2. Add all ingredients (except the Prosecco) and shake well.3. Double strain into the carafe.4. Place the cucumber in the carafe and top with Prosecco.5. Serve in a chilled glass. (Sake or Martini, your choice)[source]What to Read:
