I recently had the opportunity to hear Kate Cayley read this story from How You Were Born in Toronto, and it was almost as charming as the author herself, though a little on the dark side. In it, a pair of siblings spends a summer spying on their elderly neighbors, of whom they suspect a terrible past. Mix yourself a Communist cocktail, a little known gem dating back to the 1930s, and savour a glimpse of a childhood summer on a wintery afternoon. What You’ll Need:
• 1 shot of Gin
• 0.5 shots of Cherry Brandy
• 1 shot of Orange Juice
• 0.75 shots of Lemon Juice
What to Do: Add all the ingredients to the mixer, add lots of ice, shake thoroughly and strain. Serve in a Martini glass and garnish with a cherry.Source: http://partycocktails.com/cocktails/The_Communist.htmlWhat to Read:
