Chappy Hour: Sorrel Punch + de book of Mary
In de book of Mary (Mawenzi House), poet Pamela Mordecai puts a Jamaican spin on the traditional Christmas Story. To accompany my selection from this epic poem, I selected the traditional Jamaican Christmas drink, Sorrel Punch.
2 ½ cups dried sorrel*
3 oz. fresh ginger, grated
5 pimento berries
10 cups boiling water
2 cups sugar
2 tbsp lemon juice
¾ cup white rum
Makes 10 cups*in a pinch, you can use hibiscus tea to make this infusion.
