Chappy Hour: 75 Opals + If I Were in A Cage, I’d Reach Out for You

If I Were in a Cage, I’d Reach Out for You by Adele Barclay (Nightwood Editions) is a collection filled with alcoholic allusions, though it is not a book about booze. It is quotidian yet quirky in detail – these are playful poems.  With so many cocktail tie-in possibilities, I took one of Adele’s own suggestions and created a new Chappy Hour original: 75 Opals.

If I Were in a Cage, I’d Reach Out for You by Adele Barclay (Nightwood Editions) is a collection filled with alcoholic allusions, though it is not a book about booze. The Cocktail

*To Make Orange Simple Syrup
Combine ¼ c sugar and ½ c water in a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Using a vegetable peeler, remove the peel of 2 oranges in strips, avoiding the bitter pith. Add to saucepan. Simmer while stirring to dissolve sugars. The longer you simmer, the stronger the orange flavour will be. Strain into a jar to remove the peel, allow syrup to cool to room temperature.
