The Pineapples of Wrath

By (author): Cathon

Translated by: Helge Dascher

Set in the heart of Trois-Rivières’ world-famous (and perfectly fictitious) Hawaiian district, The Pineapples of Wrath follows amateur detective Marie-Plum as she investigates the suspicious death of her next-door neighbour. While the local police believe the former limbo champion was the victim of a fatal piña colada overdose, Marie-Plum is convinced there’s more to the case than meets the eye. A funny, loving tribute to tiki kitsch and old Agatha Christie novels.

AUTHOR

Cathon

Cathon has been making waves both as a cartoonist and an illustrator, creating comics for children and grown-ups alike. Her graphic novels include The Pineapples of Wrath, The Adventures of Sgoobidoo, and Vampire Cousins, created with Alexandre Fontaine-Rousseau, and the children’s book series Poppy and Sam/i>. She is also the co-creator (with Iris) of The Great List of Everything which was adapted into an animated series by the National Film Board. She is currently based in Montreal.

Reviews

“What film noir, detective novels, and comic books have in common is that they have long been considered low-brow trash. The Pineapples of Wrath is both a fun whodunit comic book and an interrogation of the genre.”
–Crystal Chan, Montreal Review of Books

“As with any good Agatha Christie whodunnit, the bodies pile up, which sends Marie-Plum into the depths of the seedy Tiki underworld, including the cutthroat world of professional limbo competition.”
–John Seven, The Comics Beat
