Overview
The Dialogue Conference at York University provided an opportunity for a number of scholars to bring a feminist perspective to women`s writing in Québec and the rest of Canada. The essays in this volume explore women as readers and writers; the collection concludes with the first extensive bibliography of feminist criticism about Canadian and Québec literature, much of which is drawn from unindexed sources.
Barbara Godard
Barbara Godard teaches English and Women`s Studies at York University. Her nimble translation of The Tale of Don l'Orignal, the first of her many distinguished book-length translations, recreates the spirit and the raucous dialogue in an English that's colourful, familiar, and just strange enough to capture the magic of the Fleas.
Reviews
“It's a first-rate but very scholarly leading-edge contribution to feminist literary criticism. Its interpretations of Canadian women's writings are creative and unapologetically radical.” —The Ottawa Citizen
“Gynocritics is a welcome addition to the work being done in Canada and elsewhere to historicize and theorize feminist writing and critical practice.” —University of Toronto Quarterly
