Do Lit Yourself: Book Wrapping Tips for the Holidays

Got books to wrap? Of course you do! Here’s three ways to wrap those babies that are just as special as what’s inside. Bonus: two are *~environmentally friendly~*!1: Printable lit wrap
A couple of years back, in this very column, we (like everyone else) got into the colouring craze, and came up with three printable colouring sheets for you to DIY your own wrapping paper. We did one with parts of speech and a decidedly poetic reindeer skull festooned with greenery, but our timeless favourite remains this buffalo check one with geese, “Lit Hortons”, and CanLit staple Margaret Atwood.2. Furoshiki (Japanese scarf-wrapping technique)Furoshiki is a wrapping technique where boxy objects (like books, perhaps?) are wrapped in scarves using a series of simple folds and knots. We love this wrapping style for two reasons: it looks gorgeous and unique, and also, bonus scarf gift! We used these instructions from Irene Loves Crafts (there are some other styles, there, too).

Put it in a tote!Our ALU captain Christen came up with the most time-efficient but also, probably, the most appreciated way to wrap a book (or any gift): buy putting them in our ALU tote bags. If you’re wrapping for a book lover, giving them a sturdy tote to help fuel their habit is always, always welcome.
