~ We listened to Rhonda Ganz read from her debut poetry collection Frequent, small loads of laundry (Mother Tongue Publishing)in this month Poetry in Motion.~ For Short Story Month, we got dramatic with our second highlighted short story collection: Rebecca Burton’s Long Story Short: An Anthology of (Mostly) 10-Minute Plays (Playwrights Canada Press). You can read an excerpt from one of the plays in the collection, and an interview with the playwright, Trina Davies.~ We showed our moms some love to ring in Mother’s Day with this fun feature on how they got us reading.~ Speaking of amazing women, our First Fiction Friday on Ariela Freedman’s Arabic for Beginners (Linda Leith Publishing) is all about female friendships and is as Heather O’Neill describes, “reminiscent of Rachel Cusk and Deborah Levy.”
Mandy is all wrapped up in the fierce, whip-smart stories in Leesa Dean’s Waiting for the Cyclone (Brindle & Glass), which was just shortlisted for the 30th Trillium Book Award.
