CoCoPoPro: “Who Loves Ya, Baby?” by Elizabeth Bachinsky

Elizabeth Bachinsky is a Vancouver poet who grew up in the Fraser Valley, just an hour east of the city (where you’ll find the lake mentioned in this poem). Her style of writing has been described as confessional, honest, quirky, and funny. Her voice is youthful and energetic, as anyone who has enjoyed her live readings can attest. This poem is from her brand-new collection, The Hottest Summer in Recorded History, from Nightwood Editions.

 Q&A with Elizabeth Bachinsky

What are you reading right now?

If you wrote a memoir what would it be called?
It’s already an awesome movie with Nicolas Cage and Deborah Foreman, but Valley Girl could be my working title. I grew up in the Fraser Valley.

Who are your favourite poets?
Not fair! I love a lot of poets! How about favourite poems? "A True Account of Talking to the Sun on Fire Island" by Frank O’Hara, "Felix Randall" by Gerard Manley Hopkins, "The Two Domains" by Albert Goldbarth, "One Art" by Elizabeth Bishop," Marianne Moore‘s "The Fish," and "Lifting Belly" by Gertrude Stein (the original "do not have a cow").

What’s your must-read literary magazine or website?
EVENT magazine where I am Editor in Chief! We’ve been publishing poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction by Canada’s best new and established writers since 1971. It really is a great little magazine: www.eventmags.com
