Chappy Hour: A Super Stalin & Stalin’s Carnival
You might know Steven Heighton by his award-winning fiction titles, The Shadow Boxer, Afterlands, or The Dead are More Visible. But like novelists Karen Connelley and Tanis Rideout, Heighton is also a poet of considerable talent. Palimpsest Press has released a new edition of Heighton’s debut poetry collection, Stalin’s Carnival, to engage new readers 25 years after its debut.
Chappy Hour is a monthly column, authored by Sales Manager Tan Light, that pairs an excerpt from an LPG member title with a cocktail recipe. Kick back, sip a literary-inspired tipple, and read something great!

In the section I’ve chosen for you this week, Heighton has taken Stalin’s own poetic work, along with other writing, to form the collection’s central suite: "Ashes on the Earth". I highly recommend a fiery Super Stalin to accompany this fascinating set of poems.
