Two Poems from Whispering Gallery

The only time I believe in true love is when I’m home alone belting “The Origin of Love” karaoke into the television remote and thinking about my ex-friend’s ex-girlfriend, the girl I kissed that one time after she shared pills with me at the Lakeview and she showed me the faces illustration from Hedwig and the Angry Inch tattooed on her hip, I think, and I remember there was a story about how when the friend and the girlfriend were in a fight or breaking up this girl ran around crying in the rain and brandishing a steak knife and she stabbed herself in her own thigh, running. I remembered that story at the Lakeview and I still took the pills and I remembered that story that night but I still kissed her and I think I probably liked the idea of kissing a woman who believed in true love so strongly that she’d get stabbed for it, but I forget her name now. I also kissed that ex-friend at a different time and I think she has kids now, or at least one kid, but not with that ex-girlfried, of course.
