Cozy Fest: Gerard Beirne + The Thickness of Ice

Gerard Beirne joins us from Sligo, Ireland to read from his new novel The Thickness of Ice (Baraka Books), a compelling and poignant tale of drama and mystery set in the remote sub-arctic tundra, in the small town of Churchill, Manitoba.

About our reader

Gerard Beirne holds Canadian and Irish citizenship. He has published four novels, three books of poetry, and a collection of short stories. His short story collection In a Time of Drought and Hunger was shortlisted for The Danuta Gleed Literary Award. His first novel, The Eskimo in the Net was shortlisted for Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award. A past winner of the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award winner, he has also been shortlisted for the Bord Gais Irish Book Awards.  His story, Sightings of Bono, was adapted as a short film featuring Bono as himself.  Gerard has lived in Northern Manitoba and also taught English at the University of New Brunswick. He now teaches Creative Writing and Literature at ATU Sligo, Ireland.
