May is a great month for dog lovers – it’s warm enough to enjoy being outside with your pooch, but not yet the dog days of summer – so it seemed like the perfect month to feature Palimpsest's new collection
Off Leash by Dorothy Mahoney. In researching cocktails for this month’s column, I discovered that dog lovers also love drinks – there is a veritable pack of dog-themed cocktails to enjoy. I’ve included a couple below, but I encourage you to check
this list for more breeds to imbibe.
For Toy Breeds: The Salty Chihuahua
What You Need:
3 oz grapefruit juice
1 1/2 oz tequila
Grapefruit slice for garnish Salt
What to Do:
Start by rimming a glass with the salt then fill with ice. Add tequila and grapefruit juice. Finish by garnishing with grapefruit slice.
For Lapdogs: The Regal Beagle
What You Need:
1/2 oz whisky
1/2 oz peach schnapps 1/2 oz bar sour
What to Do:
Fill a shaker with ice then add whisky, schnapps, and bar sour. Shake well. Strain into a 2 oz shot glass. Enjoy.
For Top Dogs: The Bulldog Smash
What You Need:
2 oz bourbon
3/4 oz Cointreau
1/2 peach, pit removed
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 tsp simple syrup Mint and/or lemon for garnish
What to Do:
Muddle peach, mint, and sugar in a shaker. Add lemon juice, bourbon, and Cointreau. Add ice to fill then shake well. Strain mixture into glass and garnish with mint and/or a lemon slice.
